Who Cares
Don't buy the plastic tupperware because it leaches PFA’s and BPA’s into your food. And god, don't even think about microwaving it. Only buy organic bell peppers, strawberries, and blueberries, and you might as well not even buy meat if it isn't organic. Don't get your nails done or use self-tanner because of all those endocrine-disrupting hormones leaching into your skin, and don't touch receipts. Only wear cotton active wear, and while you're at it, use all-natural makeup.
Oh. my. God. Gag me with a spoon. Why does it all have to be so hard? Why are there so many hoops we need to jump through in order to “live a perfect, healthy life”? It's exhausting and feels impossible.
The truth is, I’m human. Pobodys nerfic. I get my nails done, I slather myself in self-tanner, and I work out in polyester. I struggle with not popping that zit on my face, and I indulge in my sweet treats. But I try my best every day, and every day I make the best possible choice for my body and my happiness. I use glass tupperware, I have organic undies, I follow the clean 15 and dirty dozen list, I sleep on cotton sheets, I drink my herbs, I practice when I can, and I try my best.
The point of all of this isn't to tell you what to do, it's to show transparency. Even though I am the founder and owner of a women's health brand, even though I am an herbalist and yoga instructor, I still struggle doing everything “right”. But what if there isn't one “right”? Why can't “right” just be you trying your best every day? Well, it freaking can.
What is the whole point of living a happy life if you can't do the things that bring you joy? Go and buy that perfume, get your nails done, eat the cookie, and dance in the kitchen as you make your favorite comfort food. Whatever you do, do it with joy. Do it with presence, meaning, and intention. Do it to fill your freaking cup.
Say we had such a fun day with the gals. Got our nails and hair done, went on a shopping spree, and then went out for drinks. Throughout the day, getting exposed to various endocrine disruptors and chemicals that cause harm to the liver, nervous system, and digestive system. Okay, great, now I know exactly what my body needs to recoup from a day of fun. Drink some nourishing herbal tea, take my milk thistle, and go to bed knowing I had an amazing day, my heart is happy, and my body is replenished.
At the end of the day, no one cares if I was the “perfect health queen.” No one cares that I ate that cookie, or used self-tanner, or worked out in synthetic fabrics. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that I am happy. Falling asleep knowing that out of the 35,000 decisions I made today, each one was the best possible decision for me. Waking up knowing that I have a whole new opportunity to try my best.
So go and live your life, and have fun doing it. Remembering to make the best possible choice for your body and your happiness. Make educated decisions as you choose what new scent you will buy, what new kitchen item to bring into the house, and what body wash you will use. Know the potential harms that may come with it and act accordingly. Healthy living isn't an all-or-nothing thing, its a day at a time process, nourishing the body one decision at a time.
